About
1984-1987 BA Hons – Textile design Nottingham University.
2021-2025 Painting the next step -– Central Saint Martins
Why
-
To wholly express myself.
-
I don’t know how to put it into words but maybe paint.
-
Painting is freedom and completely transportive.
-
To bleed colour out of me obsessively.
-
To challenge myself to gain a higher visual understanding.
What
-
Life dictates what I paint.
-
Cinematic moments that hope to provoke a response.
How
-
It usually arrives from spontaneity.
-
I edit with mysterious mark making to say more with less.
-
Excavation from chance is massive.
-
Everything must be an experiment.
-
Layering colours and creating vibrations through tone, opacity.
-
The play with colour is never-ending, slightly obsessed with opposites.
Who
Richard Diebenkorn –
"Mistakes can’t be erased , but they move you from your present position."
Marlene Dumas –
"No painting can exist without the tension of what it figures and what it concretely consists of the pleasure of what it could mean and the pain of what its not."
Roger Gill –
"Forget all advice, act on intuition."
